The Power of Consistent Action in Lifestyle Changes

We all love a fresh start. A new year, a new week, the first of the month—there’s something about a blank slate that makes us believe, This time, I’ll get it right. But here’s the truth: success in lifestyle change isn’t about grand beginnings, it’s about consistent action. And whether you’re navigating PCOS, perimenopause, or just trying to feel your best, small, steady actions will always beat dramatic overhauls.

I know this because I’ve rumbled with consistency myself. When I was working to reverse my PCOS, I didn’t see immediate results. There were weeks where I questioned if all the clean eating, movement, and stress management were even working. But the beauty of consistent action is that it compounds. One day, I realized my energy was better, my cycles were regulating, and my body was responding to the effort I had put in over time. It wasn’t magic—it was science.

The Science of Consistency

Our bodies thrive on routine. Small, repeated actions create habits, and habits create long-term change. Research shows that neuroplasticity—the brain’s ability to form new connections—allows us to reshape our behaviors with repetition. Similarly, metabolic and hormonal balance improves over time when we commit to steady, healthy practices.

Take my client, Krystal*, who struggled with severe PCOS symptoms. She wanted quick results, but we focused on simple, sustainable steps—balancing her blood sugar, addressing her gut health, adding more joyful movement, and prioritizing rest. A few months later, her cycles returned, her skin improved, her gut issues were on the mend, and she felt more in control of her body than ever before. Not because she did anything extreme, but because she stayed the course.

The Nouriched “1-1-1” Approach to Consistency

I’ll let you into a “Nouriched PCOS Pivot” Insider tip. Its called the 1-1-1 approach. A simple way for my clients to remember the principle of consistent action. I’ll summarize it for you here:

  1. ONE Outrageous Why – Change is hard. There will be days when you want to quit, when progress feels slow, when the discomfort makes you question why you started in the first place. This is why you need one strong, compelling why. Maybe it’s feeling energized again, avoiding chronic illness, or being a role model for your kids. Whatever it is, anchor yourself in it, because your why will keep you going when motivation fades.
  2. ONE Focus – Resist the urge to jump from one plan to another. Stick to one program, one approach, and give it time to work. Consistency doesn’t mean perfection; it means commitment. The results come from staying the course, not constantly switching things up every time you see a new trend. Trust the process.
  3. ONE Tracker – Progress isn’t always obvious, so find a way to measure it. Maybe it’s journaling how you feel each day, tracking your workouts, or taking progress photos. Wins aren’t just about the number on the scale—notice your energy, your mood, your sleep. The more you see progress, the more motivated you’ll be to keep going. The idea of using one way to track your wins is to help with focus and consistency. Don’t journal and blog and show up on IG stories and use that flashy habit-tracking-app. That’s too much busy work. Just pick one thing, and stick to it. That way tracking your wins doesn’t become a burdensome task in and of itself. After all, your focus is on your new lifestyle habits!

Consistency isn’t sexy. It’s not flashy. But it’s a part of the secret to lasting change (BONUS: I go deeper into the success formula HERE). Whether you’re tackling PCOS, preparing for perimenopause, or just trying to feel good every day, keep showing up. Your future self will thank you!
